Which Path?

What path do I take when faced with a decision? Deciding which educational path to take can be just as hard as actually taking it.

Guidance is Important

Students have several options and must consider carefully how each direction fits their individual personal, academic, and financial circumstances. Without guidance, students are at higher risk for choosing paths that do not set them up for success, greatly increasing the number of stumbling blocks they may encounter.

At College Bound, we understand how difficult it can be for adolescents to manage complex information and make sound decisions with which they will follow through. Our goal is for our students to develop the critical thinking skills that allow them to evaluate choices and decide on goals that they are confident in and excited to achieve. We also work with students to help them to avoid common cognitive biases that can threaten to undermine good decision-making, challenging them to think deeply about conclusions they are drawing about the world.

First and foremost, we believe that students should have a strong sense of self-reflection and awareness so that they are able to understand their strengths, needs, and areas of growth. Activating our rational, conscious, and effortful thought processes is an essential skill for navigating the world and helps students develop a real connection with the path they choose, resulting in motivated and determined young adults.

Beyond this, we recognize that students, especially those who are under-resourced or first in their families to attend college, may not have access to all the information they need. By empowering students to investigate their options, weigh each choice, and discuss the fit of each direction with a caring and compassionate coach, we aim to equip students to boldly take their next steps.

Finally, we support a student’s progress towards goal achievement, giving encouragement and fostering accountability every step of the way. There may be times we provide resources and times where we are a supportive and listening ear. In any case, we hope to help students build momentum towards achievement, equipped with the active strategies and fundamental resources to flourish.
