Are you interested in non-profit work?
Do you have a passion for education?
Want to make a difference in the lives of St. Louis young people?
College Bound is seeking college students to intern part-time at our office in the Central West End, accessible by both Metro and bus. We're a group of fun-loving professionals who work hard to make a difference in the lives of young people!
College Bound interns receive a unique experience of seeing the inner-workings of an up-and-coming non-profit organization. The internship is an excellent way to learn how to be successful with students from under-resourced backgrounds and gain invaluable insight into the world of high school education and college access.
Flexible internships are available Spring 2010, Summer 2010 and Fall 2010.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
College Bound interns are essential to maintaining the quality of College Bound student programming. Interns do much of the behind-the-scenes work, including preparing materials for weekly College Bound classes, maintaining organization of files, researching student resources, assisting with logistics for student events, updating our student database, and communication with students and parents. Depending on the time of year, interns are given more long-term projects to work on. During the fall much of the work centers on College Bound students' college applications, and during the spring the focus is on financial aid and the transition to college. While students occasionally stop by the College Bound office, interns will have limited interaction with the students overall. The internship is unpaid.

College Bound is committed to providing students with all the necessary support to apply to and enroll in college, and then to successfully graduate with a college degree. Central to our theory of support are “The Three P’s” – the building blocks of our students’ success. Similarly, we have identified and embrace “The Six Essentials” which guide our behavior and capture the spirit of College Bound.
At College Bound, we are proud to be a place where going the extra mile for our students is the norm, people’s opinions and input are valued and asked for, and laughter is a part of every day. As one College Bounder put it, “The work environment, staff, and students at College Bound are matched by nothing else I’ve ever experienced. I love the relationships with my fellow staff—we are genuinely family. As trite as it may seem, we share the laughs and the tears all of the time. We look out for one another, and we move as a team.”
College Bound’s success is measured by the success of our students, and over the last two years, College Bound students have had fantastic accomplishments! 100% of College Bound’s first graduating class was admitted to four-year colleges! Besides these results, however, College Bound students are learning, growing, and expanding their horizons. College Persistence Coordinator, Laurie Bainter, spoke of her experience with the collegians: “I love being able to stand behind our students and help guide them to shining on their own. There is no better feeling than when you’ve poured time and energy into someone else and see it pay off with them taking off on their own and setting an example for others.”
“Working at College Bound is great because it's a small enough
organization that everyone can make a difference and new ideas
are welcomed, but it's also big enough that it has a tangible
impact in the community.”
~Amy Wagoner, College Bound intern, Summer 2009
